1 cup stone-ground grits like Carolina Plantation (white or yellow)
1/2 teaspoon salt
5 cups room temperature water
Freshly ground pepper
3 Tablespoons butter
Put grits into a medium bowl, cover with cold water, and stir until any chaff floats to the surface.
Skim off chaff, then drain grits in a fine mesh strainer and set aside. Set Slow Cooker to high
Combine drained grits, 5 cups water, butter, and salt into slow cooker and stir to combine.
Reduce temperature to low, cover, and cook until grits are soft and creamy, about 8 hours.
Adjust seasonings to taste. Add additional butter if desired Enjoy, "y'all!
